Tim Southee wishes to swap lives with MS Dhoni
Tim Southee, the Test captain of New Zealand's men's cricket team, has expressed his admiration for MS Dhoni. He revealed that he would like to experience life as former Indian cricket team captain and Chennai Super Kings player. This revelation came during the CEAT Cricket Awards 2024 when Southee was asked which cricketer's life he would want to live for a day.
Southee's admiration for Dhoni's legacy
Dhoni is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in cricket, having led India to victory in all ICC tournaments associated with white-ball cricket. His popularity extends beyond India, making him a global crowd favorite. Despite retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni continues to command respect and admiration for his contributions to the sport.
Dhoni's future in IPL remains uncertain
Following the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dhoni announced his intention to play one more season and passed on the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, his future in the league is subject to guidelines related to auctions and Right To Match (RTM) cards. There are speculations that he might participate in IPL 2025 as an uncapped player if BCCI reintroduces a rule allowing players to be retained in this category.
CSK's stance on Dhoni's categorization
When asked about the possibility of Dhoni being treated as an uncapped player in the 2025 IPL auction, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated to TOI, "I've no idea about it. We've not requested for it." He further added that BCCI had informed them about potentially maintaining the 'uncapped player rule,' but no official announcement has been made yet.
