Tilak Varma scores his third fifty of IPL 2024: Stats
Albeit in a losing cause, Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma scored a fine half-century against Delhi Capitals in Match 43 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). He led the charge following a top-order collapse and made a brilliant 63 off 32 balls. He smoked four boundaries and as many maximums during his stay. This was his third fifty of the season.

Chasing 258, MI were off to a poor start as Rohit Sharma (8), Ishan Kishan (20), and Suryakumar Yadav (26) departed early. Tilak joined forces with skipper Hardik Pandya (46) as the duo recorded a 71-run stand for the fourth wicket. The southpaw also recorded 50 runs with Tim David (37). Tilak got run out in the final over as MI (247/9) fell short.

Tilak enters record books
In his preceding outing versus RR, Tilak completed 1,000 runs in the IPL. He attained this feat in his 33rd match. As per Cricbuzz, at 21 years 166 days, the left-hander became the third-youngest player to 1,000 IPL runs. Tilak is only behind Rishabh Pant (20y 218d) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (21y 130d) on this list. He went past Prithvi Shaw's record (21y 169d).
How did the game pan out?
Jake Fraser-McGurk destroyed the MI bowling attack with a career-best 27-ball 84 in the powerplay overs. Abishek Porel (36), Shai Hope (41), Rishabh Pant (29), and Tristan Stubbs (48*) also batted well as DC posted 257/4 while batting first. In reply, Hardik and Tilak led the charge for MI. They eventually lost by 10 runs.
