2018 FIFA WC: Who will win the World Cup?
FIFA World Cups are a great leveller. Not always, we see the most decorated squad winning the coveted tournament. The teams with consistency and focus usually end up as winners. The last three FIFA World Cups have belonged to European nations and this time too, they could go all the way. But what about the South American nations? Here's our list of potential winners.
Some of the big teams and our stance
Following the current scenario and the lead-up to the World Cup, we feel three teams go in as the favorites to land the coveted tournament. They are Spain, Brazil and Germany in that order. We have also picked two dark horses in France and Belgium. Then there are Argentina and Portugal- two teams that could come up against all odds.
Can Spain repeat 2010 heroics?
Spain go into the 2018 FIFA World Cup as title contenders and it will take a monumental effort by teams to stop them. Spain have several match-winners in their squad and their mentality will be a prime factor. Spain look balanced in every department. Their players are versatile and can create havoc. The tactical prowess of Julen Lopetegui could determine a lot.
Brazil have a point to prove
5-time winners Brazil, last won the tournament in 2002. Since then, they haven't quite found their rhythm. The 2014 loss in the semi-final was a huge blow, given the manner in which they were pummelled by Germany. But, in the qualifiers, they topped the South American standings. With a solid base in all departments, Brazil have the firepower to stake a claim.
Defenders Germany have what it takes to win
Germany go with bundle of energy, given the experience and youth in the mix. They are a side which is capable of producing the goods in every single match. Like Spain and Brazil, they have several world class names and are sharp all over. Further, manager Joachim Low is experienced and his time with the national team gives him an edge over others.
