How much prize money will Pakistan get after CT exit?
What's the story
Pakistan's ongoing Champions Trophy journey has come to an early end after they were knocked out in the group stage.
The team lost to New Zealand and India, and their last group-stage match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain.
Pakistan finished last in Group A with one point and a -1.087 net run rate (NRR).
However, despite the disappointing run, Pakistan earned a total prize money of $265,000 for just their participation in the tournament.
Here's more.
Tournament struggles
Pakistan's Champions Trophy campaign marred by challenges
The 2025 Champions Trophy was Pakistan's first time hosting an ICC event in almost three decades.
However, the tournament was overshadowed by political turmoil, security concerns, and financial struggles.
Notably, Pakistan entered the competition after a tri-series final defeat against New Zealand and suffered a disappointing start, losing again to the Black Caps in their opener by 60 runs.
Tournament exit
Early exit and final standings in the Champions Trophy
Pakistan's hopes of making it to the knockout stage were further dashed after losing to India in their second match by six wickets.
Their early exit was sealed after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh.
As mentioned, their final group-stage match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain, leaving Pakistan with a solitary point from three matches and an NRR of -1.087, finishing at the bottom of Group A.
Prize distribution
Prize money breakdown for the Champions Trophy
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which made a comeback after an eight-year hiatus, had a total prize pool worth $6.9 million.
This is a whopping 53% increase from the 2017 edition.
The winner of the tournament will take home a whopping $2.24 million, while the runner-up gets $1.12 million, and losing semi-finalists get $560,000 each.
However, teams finishing seventh and eighth get $140,000 plus a guaranteed base amount of $125,000 for all eight participating teams.
Batting
Pakistan's batting was a let down in Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan's performance was marred by the failure of their top-order batters. Saud Shakeel (62 vs India) and Babar Azam (64 vs NZ) were the half-centurions among Pakistan's top-six batters.
Captain Mohammad Rizwan's form was also a concern as the Men in Green were bundled out for 260 and 241 against NZ and India, respectively.
Pakistan's scores would have been even lesser had Khushdil Shah, who batted at number seven, not recorded scores worth 69 and 38.
Bowling
Pakistan's bowling too suffered as a unit
Pakistan's pace attack, which was earlier touted as the best in the tournament, failed to deliver.
While each of Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed just two wickets apiece in the competition, only Naseem (5.55) had an economy below 7.8.
Abrar Ahmed, the lone specialist spinner in the squad, also claimed two wickets though his economy was 3.75.
This reflects Pakistan missed a trick by not picking another proper spinner.
Washout
Champions Trophy: Pakistan vs Bangladesh match washed out in Rawalpindi
The Champions Trophy match between Pakistan and Bangladesh was washed out due to bad weather on Thursday.
This is the second consecutive game in Rawalpindi to be disrupted without a ball being delivered.
Notably, this was the last league game for both these teams in the competition, who had already been knocked out of the semi-final race.
Both teams hence finished their respective campaigns without a single win.
