'I couldn't look at a football': Neymar after Brazil's exit
Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. stated that he couldn't look even at a football after his side's 1-2 defeat to Belgium at the FIFA World Cup 2018. The Paris Saint-Germain star opened up after the 5-time World Cup champions, Brazil, had a sorry campaign. Notably, he also hit back at claims of playacting. Here is what the superstar had to say.
Neymar did not want to see knock-outs
In an interview to AFP, Brazilian forward said that post his country's exit from the World Cup in Russia, he did not want to see a ball or the remaining of the knock-out fixtures. But the 26-year-old added that he has moved on and has many reasons to be happy than to be sad. He ensured that he wasn't moping around.
Neymar feels playacting claims were exaggerated
Neymar's theatrics, after a foul, went on to become the center of discussion with the player often seen playacting during the event in Russia. As per Swiss broadcaster RTS, he wasted almost 14 minutes, after falling to the ground and looking for a foul. However, Neymar shot back and stated the criticism of his playacting was exaggerated as he was kicked often.
A look at Neymar's performance in the World Cup
Brazil went in as pre-tournament favorites, but once again fell down against European opposition. The South American giants never quite managed to soar to heights expected and talisman Neymar did not have a solid campaign. He scored 2 goals in his 27 attempts. The player also made one assist. Brazil needed him more than ever to guide the campaign but he failed.
What next for Neymar?
Neymar brushed off reports that linked him with a move to Real Madrid in the summer. He will look to get off to a bright start with Paris-Saint Germain this season and help them to win trophies. The main target will be the Champions League.
