Gambhir on why he didn't play after stepping-down from captaincy
Delhi Daredevils player Gautam Gambhir had a disappointing IPL 2018 campaign after achieving so much success over the years. The former India player stepped down from Delhi's captaincy midway through the tournament and then did not feature in the Playing XI. According to reports, Gambhir has stated that the reason behind not playing was that he did not get selected.
Gambhir highlights what went wrong for DD in IPL 2018
DD have been one of the most inconsistent teams in IPL over the years and this term too they finished last. Gambhir opined that injuries to key players like Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris were crucial. The side also got the team balance wrong. He felt that bowlers weren't up to the mark besides many players not clicking as per expectations.
Veteran southpaw quashes retirement talks
Earlier, rumours went around that Gambhir is pondering on retirement after a torrid campaign. Reports also stated that the veteran player has lost his touch and this could be his final IPL campaign. But the former Indian player quashed rumours and said that he is keen to keep playing cricket and help the teams he is representing. Gambhir plays for Delhi in domestic cricket.
Gambhir closely following KKR's campaign
The former Knight acknowledged that he is still a supporter of KKR and has an emotional attachment with his former side. The Delhi player praised current KKR skipper DK and lauded the side for handling the big games. He is following the play-offs which sees the eastern giants take on Rajasthan in the Eliminator.

One feels for Gambhir, who was expected to do good things for Daredevils alongside Ricky Ponting in charge. But the plan failed. Watching Gambhir not play was a tough sight and it remains to be seen how he gets back to action next season.
