IPL 2018: 5 players set to make their IPL debut
The IPL auction has never failed to surprise us. From little known cricketers fetching big bucks to veteran T20 cricketers going unsold, we have seen it all. With the 2018 IPL all set to kick off from April 7, we take a look at the top players who would make their IPL debut in this season.
Fast bowling sensation Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer was one of the biggest uncapped buys at the IPL 11 auction. The right arm pacer fetched an amount of Rs. 7.2 crores from Rajasthan Royals. The 22-year-old was one of the biggest revelations at the BBL this year, where he bagged 16 wickets in 12 games while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes. He is pretty handy with the bat as well.
Australia's T20 specialist D'arcy Short
D'arcy Short might have played just 5 T20Is for Australia but he has mustered 196 runs at an average of 49. He has 966 runs in T20 cricket at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 150.70. This is why Rajasthan Royals put their faith in the flashy left-handed opener by signing him for Rs. 4 Cr.
Indian's teenage sensation Shubman Gill
18-year-old Shubman Gill has taken the cricketing world by storm after some spectacular batting at the Under-19 World Cup. Gill scored 372 runs at an average of 124 and a strike rate of 112.38 in 5 innings. This includes 3 fifties and a hundred. He was named 'Man of the Tournament' for his performances and KKR will be hoping he can continue his form.
Big-hitting West Indian Evin Lewis
We have all seen what Evin Lewis is capable of when he scored an unbeaten 125 against India at Kingston in July 2017. The southpaw is one of the biggest strikers of the ball just like his mentor Chris Gayle. He boasts 2,657 runs at an average of 34.06 in 84 T20s The Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs. 3.8 crores.
Australian speedster Jason Behrendorff
Jason Behrendorff is one of the lesser-known players on this list, but for those of you who follow Indian cricket closely, you might remember his breathtaking performance where he picked up 4 wickets against India in Guwahati last October. The left-arm speedster was bagged at a bargain price of Rs. 1.5 crores by the Mumbai Indians.
