Here's the list of unwanted records created in IPL's history
As the 12th season of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off this month, the excitement is unlike any other season. While the players and the eight franchises get ready for another gruelling season ahead, let us have a look at few of the worst and unwanted records, scripted in the history of the cash-rich league.
Biggest margins of defeat
The losses hurt a lot, be it any sport. As for IPL, the tournament has also seen some huge margins of defeat, with Delhi Capitals topping the list. They succumbed to a massive 146-run defeat to Mumbai Indians in 2017. As for wickets, a total of five teams have suffered big defeats, losing by 10 wickets on a total of 11 occasions.
Unlucky Delhi look for change in fortunes
As all Delhi Capitals fans would know, they have been one of the worst performers in the league. However, what hurts even more is the number of losses they have endured in last 11 seasons. Delhi Capitals have the worst win/loss percentage in the tournament till date, losing 57.14% of their matches, facing defeat in 92 of their 161 matches.
Too low is dangerous
Considering the biggest margins of defeat, the scoreboard total plays a huge factor. However, if the total is way too low to be defended, it's tough luck altogether. As of now, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hold the record for the lowest total till date, with a score of 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2017, thereby losing the contest by massive 82 runs.
Harbhajan Singh: The man with the ducks
Getting dismissed for a duck is the worst result for any batsman. As for this unwanted record, Harbhajan Singh has the most number of ducks. He has been out for nought in 13 out of 87 innings, more than any other batsman in IPL.
MS Dhoni: The hit and flop at the same time
Wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni is one of the most successful skippers of all time. Notably, he has led a franchise in 10 out of 11 IPL seasons till 2018. Having played 159 matches till date as the skipper, Dhoni has the most number of losses (64) to his name, while also having the most number of wins (94) under his belt.
Basil Thampi: The bowler with runs!
A bowler's worst nightmare comes when he goes for plenty and is smacked all over the park. As for the unwanted record of conceding the most number of runs in an innings, Basil Thampi of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) features at the top. He gave away 70 runs in his four-over spell against Bangalore in the last season of the tournament.
IPL 2019 promises another thriller
The IPL 2019 gets underway from March 23, with CSK taking on RCB in the opener in Chennai. The schedule of the entire tournament is yet to be announced completely, given the General Elections will happen at the same time. As of now, the schedule for only the opening two weeks of the tournament has been announced. Matches will be played at usual timings.
