Extraordinary bowling records held by James Anderson
James Anderson is currently the number one ranked Test bowler and has performed with exquisite quality. Amongst the current generation of bowlers, his mastery over the art of swing bowling is in a different dimension. For England, he has taken the most number of Test wickets, amassing 553 scalps in total. Here are the other amazing records held by Anderson.
Anderson surpassed Ian Botham's record that stood for three decades
James Anderson made his debut in 2003 against Zimbabwe and has not looked back since. In 2015, he broke the record of Ian Botham for the most number of wickets picked by an Englishman in Tests. Botham had taken 383 wickets in his career after playing 102 Tests. Anderson managed to overcome this record in 100 matches. He is now followed by Broad (424).
Sixth bowler in history to take 500 Test wickets
In September 2017, Anderson took the 500th scalp of his Test career. With this, he became the sixth bowler, in the history of cricket, to reach this landmark. Before him, only Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan, Anil Kumble, Courtney Walsh and Glenn McGrath had 500+ wickets under their belt. He is the first England bowler to achieve this astounding feat.
101 wickets at the Home of Cricket
James Anderson's favorite hunting ground is the Mecca of Cricket, Lord's. He has picked up 103 wickets at this hallowed venue. He is the best bowler in terms of wickets taken at this venue, followed by team-mate Stuart Broad (83). Anderson also has an amazing six 5-wicket hauls here. He is only the second bowler to pick 100+ wickets at a single venue.
Most Test deliveries bowled by a pacer
In April 2018, Anderson became the most over-worked pacer in Tests. He achieved it in a match against New Zealand at Christchurch. He overtook the record set by Courtney Walsh by bowling his 30,020th delivery. Anderson is 4th in the list of cricketers who have bowled the most number of deliveries (30,778) in Test cricket. Murali leads this list followed by Kumble and Warne.
