Suspended Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya loses brand endorsement
The situation is getting worse for Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya after his misogynistic comments on Karan Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan. Pandya, alongside KL Rahul, faced the wrath of the public. The BCCI and the CoA acted tough as they suspended them pending an inquiry. And now Pandya has lost a major endorsement deal as well. Here are the details.
We have suspended our association with Hardik: Gillette
According to a report in The Times of India, Pandya's contract with men's shaving razor Gillette Mach3 Start has been dropped. "Hardik Pandya's recent comments do not reflect the values of Gillette. We have suspended our association with Hardik until we decide on further course of action," a company's spokesperson said to the company.
Several other brands could follow suit
The report adds that several other brands are expected to follow suit. The reactions to the duo's TV appearance is thought to be on the negative side. Pandya is associated with many brands besides TV advertisements. Brands like OPPO, Gulf Oil, Sin Denim, DFY Sport and EUME are associated with the cricketer.
Pandya, Rahul sent back to India
The CoA went on to suspend the two players with immediate effect from participating in any manner whatsoever. They have been sent back to India. Earlier, it was expected that the two could be handed a ban for a match, but the CoA decided otherwise. They will miss the ODI series against Australia. Further, they might not participate in the tour of New Zealand.
Selectors to name replacements
We do not support views like that: Kohli
Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli on Friday said that the team does not support views like that. "We, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated. I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views," said Kohli.
What had Pandya stated on the chat show?
Pandya, in his flashy self, sat on the couch and his words were mindless for the most part of the episode. He boasted how his parents were 'cool' and revealed he told them after he lost virginity. About women, Pandya didn't have any good things to say. He said he liked to see them 'move' and credited his love for 'black culture' for this.
