Kohli breaks yet another Sachin's record
Sri Lanka baffled by Kohli's brilliance
Virat's unbeaten double hundred is his 5th in Test Cricket and his first against the Islanders. The dashing right handed batsman took just 130 balls to reach his fourth Test hundred in 2017 and from there on, there was no stopping him. Kohli also surpassed Sunil Gavaskar's record for most hundreds as Indian Test captain.
Kohli's double hundreds have come in consecutive games
Kohli's other double hundreds have come in consecutive games. His first was a 200 against West Indies in Antigua and he followed it up with a 211 in the next game against New Zealand in Indore last October. Kohli continued his dominance and scored a 235 against England and a quick fire 204 against Bangladesh in consecutive games.
Virat on par with Indian cricket legends
The Indian skipper is now tied with cricket legend Rahul David who has 5 double hundreds in his lengthy Test career. Further, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are now the only Indian cricketers with more double hundreds (6) than Virat Kohli. Among the current players, Pujara is next with three double tons in his Test career.
The rise and rise of Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is also the leading run scorer in ODIs this year. The Indian skipper has scored 6 centuries in the 50 over format of the game and also boasts 9 fifties across all formats. The run machine also equalled Dravid's record of most 50 plus scores in a calendar year in the ongoing Nagpur Test. Thanks, Kohli. You made our Sunday!
