WWE gimmicks are an integral part of the wrestling business, and if the ploy doesn't work for a wrestler, he has a low chance of being successful in the business. Here are the five wrestlers throughout WWE's history, who have carried the scariest gimmicks.
Papa Shango was a scary voodoo priest
The gimmick of Papa Shango, the witch doctor, became quite a scary affair for kids watching WWE in the early 90s. He painted his face to resemble a skull and wore a necklace of bones. Shango also carried a skull, from which, smoke emerged at times. However, his wrestling prowess was never that great and he had a short stint with WWE.
The Big Red Monster Kane was quite fearsome
Kane, the kayfabe brother of The Undertaker, had a traumatic childhood where his face got burned and he came into WWE as a demon straight from the deepest rungs of hell. His eerie entrance, huge size, the scary mask, and sheer strength were enough to intimidate both audiences and opponents alike. The most famous thing surely remains the pyro around the ring he summoned.
Bruiser Brody was a frightening figure
Bruiser Brody was a frightening figure not only because of his gimmick but also due to certain stunts he pulled inside the ring. His cage match with Lex is particularly infamous because he suddenly started legitimately attacking him and the match had to be called off. His character was of a huge-sized lunatic, who would attack you without any rhyme or reason.
The worm-eating Boogeyman is the stuff of nightmares
The Boogeyman took his character so far that he legitimately scared and disgusted WWE fans. Boogeyman carried a bunch of live worms with him and would eat them raw on stage. His face was painted red and the character was billed to have come from 'The Bottomless Pit'. His entrance was also quite unique, with him smashing a big clock on his head.
Shrouded in darkness and myth, The Undertaker arose
The Undertaker is the Demon of Death Valley, and he collects the souls of his victims, embalms them, and buries them in his backyard.
