When WWE went bizarre: 5 worst storylines of all time
Vince McMahon is, undoubtedly, a genius. He took a wrestling promotion and made it into one of the most popular entertainment brands in the world. However, while promoting and approving storyline ideas, Vinny Mac is known to go way off the charts at times. Some WWE storylines have been plain ridiculous and here we look at the top 5.
Vince McMahon's surgery on Jim Ross
Jim Ross, Raw's commentator for a long time, took a leave in 2005 to deal with a medical issue. His departure was made into one of the worst WWE story-lines. In a segment, McMahon was shown operating on JR and pulling out stuff from his posterior that included a football helmet, a bottle of barbecue sauce, and JR's head with his hat and glasses.
Fake Diesel and fake Razor Ramon: A failed idea
When Kevin Nash and Scott Hall quit WWE to join World Championship Wrestling, McMahon came up with the idea of continuing their characters, Diesel and Razor Ramon, by casting other wrestlers. The two fakes failed to gather much attention and the idea was soon dropped. Interestingly, things eventually turned fruitful for fake Diesel, with him being recast as the iconic Kane.
Vince McMahon dies in a car crash
Vince McMahon is known as someone who can pull off publicity stunts like no other. He eclipsed his own talents when in 2007 McMahon faked his death, with WWE announcing he was killed in a car crash. WWE even held a memorial service in his honor, but tragedy struck when Chris Benoit died soon after. The idea was immediately dropped as a result.
Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio fighting for Dominick's custody
The friends Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were pitted against each other in a story-line where Guerrero claimed Rey's son Dominick as his own. A ladder match was stipulated to decide who would be allowed to keep custody of the child. Surprisingly, Mysterio's real-life son Dominick was present during the whole affair and had to witness this saga at a young and impressionable age.
When a wrestler's father is brought into the story-line
The Torrie Wilson-Dawn Marie story-line was another ridiculous thing pulled off by WWE. The feud saw Marie ending up having an affair and marrying Wilson's father. The two were shown getting married in their underwear in a hotel and the older man was then said to be dead owing to rigorous sexual activity. Wilson proceeded to defeat her "stepmother" in a match.
