Five controversies of the Immortal Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan might be the one who made pro-wrestling into a booming entertainment business. He was its first mainstream star. The Hulkster always portrayed the image of a good guy at WWE, and had a run as a heel in WCW. However, Hogan was hardly as good a person offstage as he showed on it. Here we bring to you his five infamous controversies.
A sex tape featuring the legend surfaced in 2012
In 2012, footage surfaced of the Hulkster and the wife of his friend, radio personality, Bubba the Love Sponge. The matter was dragged to court, where Hogan won the case against the company Gawker, which had leaked certain parts of the tap online. Though Hogan did manage to win the case, the unwanted publicity and shame he went through could have been avoided.
Hogan's racist comments which terminated his WWE contract
It was in July 2015 that WWE decided to terminate its contract with Hulk Hogan. Hogan was found spewing racially charged comments when he knew he was being recorded. He used the 'n-word' several times, and also said he was "racist to a point". As a precautionary measure, WWE decided to cut off any relationship it had with the Hulkster.
Hogan's homophobic comments were caught on tape
When the world has still not been rid of homophobia, it is expected of hugely influential celebrities such as Hulk Hogan to lead by example. But he was far from doing that, when in 2015, the same tape also revealed Hulk using explicit homophobic slurs while discussing a TV show, which he was then doing for VH1.
The 1990s steroid scandal that shook WWE
In the early 1990s, Hulk Hogan was involved in a scandal where he was accused of purchasing steroids from the WWE's medical officer. Hogan, who indeed had taken steroids, decided to take a sabbatical in 1992 and returned later. However, during the trial against WWE, Hogan admitted to using steroids to obtain the huge muscular build. This tarnished his image forever.
When Hogan's son crashed a car and killed a guy
Nick, Hogan's son, was caught in a car crash in 2007, when he was taking part in an illegal drag race in Florida. Nick's car crashed, and while he was ailed, the person along with him, John Graziano, ended up needing care throughout his life. Hogan splashed huge amounts of money to see his son avoid jail-time, but showed no sympathy for the victim.
