Cristiano Ronaldo named 'The Best FIFA Men's Player 2016'
Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Best FIFA Men's Player 2016 at FIFA's inaugural award ceremony in Zurich. The 31-year old Portuguese footballer edged out Argentine Lionel Messi and France's Antoine Griezmann to win the award. In 2016, Ronaldo's 16 goal in 12 matches helped Real Madrid win the Champions League title. He also led his national team to win the 2016 Euro Cup.
FIFA Football Awards
After a six year collaboration with France Football's Ballon d'Or, International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) hosted their own football awards, 'The Best FIFA Football Awards' on 9 January 2017. Eight awards were given in different categories; the votes were cast by captains and head coaches of all the national teams, media representatives and an online public ballot.
Carli Llyod wins the best women's player award
The United States' mid-fielder Carli Llyod was named the 'Best FIFA Women's Player 2016', beating Marta of Brazil and Melanie Behringer of Germany. It was her second straight FIFA best female player award. "I play on the best team in the world and this award would not be possible without my extraordinary teammates, who are fantastic competitors," she said after receiving the award.
Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri named best coach
After guiding Leicester City to a fantastic Premier League win in 2016, Claudio Ranieri was named the Best FIFA Men's Coach 2016 edging out Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane and Portugal boss Fernando Santos. "What a fantastic evening for not only to be here with a lot of legends but to win as well," he said on stage at the ceremony.
Germany's Silvia Neid named best women's coach
Germany boss Silvia Neid was named 'The Best FIFA Women's Coach 2016' for the third time in her 11-year career. She had guided the German women's Football team to a Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Other awards at the ceremony
Malaysia's Mohd Faiz Subri won the FIFA Puskás Award 2016 for his amazing goal in Malaysian Super League. Football fans around the world voted Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool supporters for the FIFA Fan Award. FIFA Fair Play Award was given to Atlético Nacional after they insisted that the Copa Sudamericana cup be given to Brazil's Chapecoense team, who lost their players in the plane-crash.

FIFA also named the team of the year. The 11 stars who earned name in the team are Manuel Neuer (goalkeeper), Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Andres Iniesta, Messi, Luis Suarez and Ronaldo.
