Records broken in the 2017-18 Ashes series
Australia won the 5th Test at the SCG by an innings and 123 runs to complete a 4-0 rout of England in the 2017-18 Ashes. Dominated by the home side throughout the series, this was the 12th time England went without a win in the Ashes series. Here are the many records made and broken during the 25 days of cricket.
Steve Smith at the center of it all
Aussie skipper, Steve Smith aptly picked as the "Man of the Series" scored a whopping 687 runs during the series at an average of 137.40, the second highest by an Australian in the Ashes, after Sir Don Bradman's 139.14 in 1930. He is the now second-quickest (111 innings) alongside Gary Sobers to reach the 6,000 Test runs milestone, behind Bradman's 68 innings feat.
Smith's 23 Test hundreds
Smith scored three centuries bringing up his Test centuries tally to 23. He is the 3rd quickest player to reach this, doing so in 110 innings, behind Bradman (59) and Sunil Gavaskar (109).
Cook's 12,000-run achievement
While his side lost the series, former skipper Alastair Cook will have something to take back from the Ashes. At 33, he is the youngest player to reach the milestone of 12,000 Test runs, beating Sachin's previously held record (35 years and 176 days). He is the only sixth player to join the 12,000-run club and the slowest to do so (275 innings).
The 12,000 Test-run club
Apart from Cook, Sachin, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, and Kumar Sangakkara are the only others to have scored more than 12,000 Test runs. Among them Sangakkara took the least innings to reach it (224 innings).
James Anderson becomes the fifth highest wicket-taker
Having taken 17 wickets at an average of 27.82 during the Ashes series, England's James Anderson now has 523 Test scalps, becoming the fifth highest wicket-taker overtaking Courtney Walsh of West Indies. He is also the most capped Test fast bowler with 134 Test matches to his name. Anderson is also the highest wicket-taker for England in the series.
A record to forget for English spinners
England's spinners averaged at 112.5 in this series, their worst in any series in which they bowled over 200 plus overs.
