Petra Kvitova beat Johanna Konta 6-3, 6-4 in the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham. Kvitova will next face Daria Gavrilova in the next round. 2017 Wimbledon winner and top seed Garbine Muguruza eased into the 2nd round after beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 6-2. 2nd seed Elina Svitolina overcame Donna Vekic in three sets. She won the tie 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Vintage Federer extends winning run
Defending champion Roger Federer continued his winning run on grass to 17 matches after overcoming Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene at the Halle Open. The Swiss maestro won the tie in a convincing 6-1, 6-2 fashion. He is chasing a record 10th title in Halle. He will be up against Frenchman Benoit Paire in the next round. Federer reclaimed the number one ranking last week.
