Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman could return to CAC: Reports
Cricketing legends Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman could be on their way back to helping the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per media reports, both men may soon become part of the new Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which is to be formed on Sunday in the Annual General Meeting. Here are further details.
Both had resigned from the role earlier this year
Earlier this year, in July, both these men had resigned from the role owing to the conflict of interest charges pressed against them. Interestingly, the new BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, was also a member of the CAC back then, but he too had resigned from the role. The role of the CAC involves selecting the coach for the national side.
Kapil Dev was made interim head of CAC
Meanwhile, following the resignation of the three men, former Indian legend Kapil Dev was made the interim chairman. The CAC also had Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. It was under Dev when Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was granted an extension. Following Shastri's extension, Dev stepped down from the role, leaving the position vacant once again.
CAC will take a call on the selection committee: Source
"Sachin and Laxman are likely to get back to CAC. The Committee will be formed at the Apex Council meeting tomorrow. CAC will take a call on the selection committee also," a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to PTI.
Cooling-off period likely to be scrapped, 70-year-old age cap likely
With the AGM around the corner, one of the important elements that would be up for discussion is the cooling-off period. As per the current regulations, a senior official in the administration needs to go on a mandatory two-year cooling-off period after serving for six years. However, this is likely to be scrapped and replaced by an age cap of 70 years.
