Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel turns down £50m Tottenham move
What's the story
Bayern Munich's young forward Mathys Tel has turned down a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The decision comes despite the two clubs agreeing on a £50 million deal, Sky Sports in Germany reported.
The 19-year-old French player's decision to snub the Spurs has been acknowledged by Bayern's management team.
Tottenham had hoped that the promise of more regular game time would sway Tel to join their ranks over other clubs.
Loan preference
Tel shows interest in loan deal amid Premier League competition
Tel, a France U21 international, is said to be more keen on a loan deal.
This has led to a three-way race between Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, all of whom are eager to land him.
Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli has also shown interest in the former Rennes attacker. Their team is currently managed by German Matthias Jaissle.
Transfer conditions
Man United's interest in Tel depends on player departures
Manchester United have also shown interest in Tel but any potential deal depends on player departures at Old Trafford.
The club is reportedly weighing offers for Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.
However, it's unlikely that Garnacho will move as interest from Napoli and Chelsea suffered a lull.
Moreover, the Argentine has impressed Ruben Amorim of late. He has been getting regular games.
Barcelona stopped their pursuit of Rashford and Aston Villa are said to be exploring options.
Recruitment setback
Tel's rejection deals blow to Tottenham's recruitment plans
Tel's decision to reject the move is a setback for Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.
This comes after the club also missed out on Randal Kolo Muani earlier in the window when he opted to join Juventus on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite these challenges, Postecoglou remains optimistic about strengthening his squad before the transfer deadline.
Information
Tel is assessing options
As per Fabrizio Romano, Tel and his agent are in Munich together to assess all options after the player rejected Tottenham. Despite face to face talks, Tel has informed Spurs about his decision. Notably, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy arrived in Munich on Friday in order to accelerate talks before things collapsed.
