Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes youngest centurion in youth cricket at 13
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old batter, has made history by becoming the youngest cricketer to slam a century in youth cricket. He pulled off this incredible feat during the first Unofficial Under-19 Test match of a two-game series between India and Australia. Opening the innings, Suryavanshi hammered a 62-ball 104, a knock studded with 14 fours and 4 sixes. He also shared a 133-run opening stand with Vihaan Malhotra.
Second-fastest ton in youth Test cricket
Suryavanshi's century came off just 58 balls, marking it the second-fastest hundred in youth Test cricket history. This record is only surpassed by England's Moeen Ali, who scored a hundred off 56 balls against Sri Lanka back in 2005. Despite his young age, Suryavanshi now holds the distinction of being the youngest and fastest Indian with a century in youth Tests.
Suryavanshi surpasses Shanto and Azam's records
Suryavanshi has also smashed records that were once held by Najmul Hossain Shanto and Babar Azam. At just 13 years and 187 days, he is now the youngest-ever centurion in professional cricket. He broke Bangladesh captain Shanto's record of scoring a century at 14 years and 231 days in an ODI match against Sri Lanka Under-19 in 2013.
Suryavanshi: Youngest debutant in Ranji Trophy history
Suryavanshi's record-breaking feats go way beyond his recent century. In 2024, he broke the records previously held by Indian cricket legends Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar. Suryavanshi made his Ranji Trophy debut at 12 (284 days) old, becoming the fourth-youngest Indian to do so. He played for Bihar against Mumbai in the Group B game in Patna.
