The Indian Premier League 2024 season came to an end on May 26, Sunday. Kolkata Knight Riders won their third IPL crown after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets at Chepauk. SRH batted first and were folded for 113 in 18.3 overs. In response, the Knights scored 114/2. KKR suffered only three defeats this season. We decode teams with fewest defeats in a campaign.
Rajasthan Royals - 3 defeats in IPL 2008
The inaugural season of the IPL saw champions Rajasthan Royals suffer only three defeats. RR topped the standings in the league stage with 11 wins and three defeats. They finished with 22 points. Their defeats came against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). RR beat MI in the semis before overcoming Chennai in the final.
Kolkata Knight Riders - 3 defeats in IPL 2024
Kolkata Knight Riders were the dominant force in IPL 2024. They finished top of the 10-team table in the league stage. KKR claimed nine wins and three defeats. Two of their matches were abandoned due to rain. They managed 20 points. KKR's defeats came against CSK, RR and Punjab. The Knights beat SRH twice thereafter in Qualifier 1 and in the final.
Gujarat Titans - 4 defeats in IPL 2022
Gujarat Titans were one of the two new teams to join the IPL in 2022. Under Hardik Pandya, the Titans sealed the trophy in their maiden season. GT were solid in the league stage and finished with 10 wins and four defeats (20 points). Their defeats came against SRH, MI, Punjab and RCB. They won the Qualifier 1 and final against RR respectively.
MI suffered three outright defeats in IPL 2020
Five-time winners Mumbai Indians had three outright defeats in IPL 2020. However, they lost twice in the Super Over after the matches were tied against RCB and PBKS respectively.
