Paris Saint-Germain won the 2023-24 season Ligue 1 title with three games to spare. PSG had drawn 3-3 with Le Havre before AS Monaco's defeat against Lyon ensured Luis Enrique's men the title. PSG collected their 12th Ligue 1 honor, moving two clear of Saint-Etienne. It was another hat-trick of wins for the Parisans. Here are Ligue 1 clubs with three-plus successive league titles.
PSG have won three-plus successive league titles on three occasions
After winning the Ligue 1 title in 1985-86 and 1993-94, PSG had to wait for a long time to be triumphant They went on to seal four successive league titles from 2012-13 to 2015-16. PSG then won three successive Ligue 1 honors in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. And now, they have won the title for three successive seasons again (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24).
Saint-Etienne have attained this feat twice
Saint-Etienne bagged their first two titles in 1956-57 and 1963-64 respectively. Their last honor was in the 1980-81 season. In between, Saint-Etienne sealed four straight league honors from 1966-67 to 1969-70. Another hat-trick of Ligue 1 titles followed suit in 1973-74, 1974-75 and 1975-76. Saint-Etienne's last major trophy was the Coupe de la Ligue in 2012-13. They are currently playing Ligue 2 football.
Nine-time champions Marseille won four straight honors once
Marseille have won three-plus successive league titles once. They claimed four striaght honors in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1991-92 respectively. Meanwhile, the nine-time French top-flight champions secured the trophy also in 1936-37, 1947-48, 1970-71, 1971-72 and 2009-10. The French heavyweights have finished second in Ligue 1 13 times.
Lyon won seven successive Ligue 1 titles
Lyon dominated Ligue 1 for seven straight seasons. They won the honor in 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08 respectively. They are the only side in Ligue 1 history to win five-plus titles in a row. Like Marseille, Lyon have attained the mark of three-plus successive Ligue 1 honors on one occasion.
