Fugitive Vijay Mallya wanted to meet Kohli & Co.
Vijay Mallya, who has been on the run, wanted to meet Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team. Kohli and Co. are currently in England playing a 5-match Test series. The former owner of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines has been taking refuge in the UK after absconding from India. He is currently fighting an extradition to India on charges of money laundering and fraud.
Team India does not want to be involved in controversy
As per media reports, Mallya was keen on meeting Kohli and Co. in England. He had requested the Indian management, but it was turned down. The Indian team does not want to be involved in any controversy, which might arise out of this meeting with Mallya. Last year, the team had to leave early from an event where Mallya was present.
Mallya has had a close association with Kohli
Mallya has had a close association with Indian skipper Virat Kohli due to the Indian skipper playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Mallya used to own the franchise.
Mallya embroiled in multiple issues
At the moment, Mallya is facing several issues. He is set to lose his Formula One team Force India to new owners. Force India made their foray into the Formula One in 2008. After 202 races, in a decade, they are cash-strapped at the moment. It comes as another blow for the businessman, who earlier saw his Kingfisher Airlines shut down in 2012.
