Team India introduces new drill during training: Details here
Team India has been focusing a lot on fitness training to cope up with the busy cricketing calendar. As the players continue sweat hard prior to each series, a new piece of training drill has been introduced. This has been done in order to increase players' running speed, which would make them even stronger. Here are further details on this new training drill.
What is the new training drill?
During the ongoing training session in Hyderabad, the opening training involved the usual short sprint in a batch of two, one behind the other. However, the next training saw the players changing from 'on your mark', 'get set', 'go' to start stretching initially and suddenly jump up and start sprinting. Players placed handkerchief behind their back, while others tried to pluck it.
Team India undergo a new training session
How does this training help?
As for the impact of this training, which has been introduced by India's strength and conditioning coach Nick Webb, it increases the sprinting intent of the player. "If I can understand after watching the video posted on the BCCI website, the purpose of the drill is to enhance running speed development and enhancing the training environment through competition," said an IPL trainer to PTI.
Players also undergo another intense training
The trainer also explained that there is another intense training session involved, which sees players having their one hand virtually tied behind their back while they sprint. "Changing different starting positions adds more chaos and challenges movement patterns," the trainer further explained.
Virat Kohli has been vocal about fitness
As far as fitness is concerned, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been quite vocal about it, not just for him, but for the team. Kohli said that fitness is something that needs to come from within, as it was the same for him, since he wanted to become a successful international cricketer. Kohli warned that failure to maintain fitness would make the player evaporate.
Fitness a priority as India face unpredictable Windies
Team India has intensified their training as they prepare to take on Windies in a three-match T20I and ODI series, starting Friday. While Windies might not be at the same level as India for now, they are known to be highly unpredictable, especially while playing in India. Thus, fitness should be one of India's primary concerns to stand any success against the Windies.
