
Tamim Iqbal suffers heart attack, rushed to hospital
What's the story
Former Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal, was rushed to Fazilatunnesa Hospital after he suffered a heart attack, as per Cricbuzz.
The incident took place during a match in the Dhaka Premier League between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club on March 24.
The 36-year-old cricketer complained of chest discomfort while playing.
He was immediately given medical attention on the field and rushed to the hospital for further evaluation.
Update
Medical team provides update on Iqbal's condition
BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury gave an update on Iqbal's condition.
"He complained of having chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was checked and underwent an ECG," Chowdhury was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"There was a little problem and at times you cannot understand immediately (what the condition of the heart is). In the first blood test, there was a problem."

Chowdhury further explained the sequence of events that led to the heart attack.
"He said he was feeling uncomfortable and wanted to go back to Dhaka. An ambulance was called in, and when he was returning to the field from the hospital, he felt a pain in his chest again."
This led to a second hospital visit where it seemed that Iqbal had suffered a massive heart attack.

Iqbal is undergoing surgery at the moment where a stent will be placed in his heart. Several board directors are rushing to Savar and the board meeting has been rescheduled to Monday.
Initially, a helicopter was arranged to take Iqbal to the hospital but it couldn't be flown from the venue. He was later taken by road to Fazilatunnesa Hospital.

Earlier this year, Iqbal had announced his retirement from international cricket.
Initially, he had declared his decision in July 2023, however, he reversed it after intervention from then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Although he was asked to return for the ICC Champions Trophy, he declined the offer and confirmed his retirement via a Facebook post.
Over his career, Tamim played 70 Tests, 243 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for Bangladesh where he scored over 15,000 runs across formats.
