Ex-Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal released from hospital after heart attack
What's the story
Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from Dhaka's Evercare Hospital.
This comes after he underwent initial treatment for a major heart attack he suffered during a domestic cricket match.
The 36-year-old cricketer had complained of acute chest pain while captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League fixture on Monday.
Here's more.
Treatment
Immediate medical intervention and discharge
After his collapse, Iqbal was quickly taken to a hospital, where he underwent stent placement surgery on the same day.
He was later transferred to a bigger facility for further observation.
Dr. Shahabuddin Talukder announced his discharge to the press on Friday saying that Iqbal "must follow a strict rehabilitation program and make lifestyle changes to aid his recovery."
Comeback
Iqbal's cricket career and health advice
Iqbal, who has scored more than 15,000 international runs in all formats, is the only Bangladeshi player to have scored centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
Abu Zafar of Bangladesh's health ministry confirmed that Iqbal would be out of cricket for at least three months.
He stressed on Iqbal quitting smoking (a known risk factor for heart attacks) and strictly following medical advice for recovery.
