Trailer of Barcelona's new documentary released, and fans can't wait
From 2008 to 2012, Barcelona were, without a doubt, one of the best teams in the history of club football. With former player Pep Guardiola at the helm, Barca reinvigorated the beautiful game with a unique personal touch, winning trophies and hearts globally. The trailer of the documentary of their journey, "Take the Ball, Pass the Ball" was released and here we discuss it.
If you don't love Barcelona, you have a problem: Henry
The trailer starts with Barcelona and Arsenal legend Henry saying that wherever you are from, you have to love Barcelona if you love football. And he is absolutely right- no matter which club you support, chills ran down our spines when Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta moved with the grace of ballet dancers on the football pitch, with breathtaking precision, passing, and movements.
The magic and workings of Tiki-taka
Guardiola delivered magic with Barcelona, the ball moving from one end to the other in a flash, with players already changing positions, anticipating the next moves beforehand. Tiki-taka is about passing and movement, and players like Xavi, Messi, and Iniesta thrived, with Jordi Alba, Mascherano providing additional support. Fans hope the documentary reveals how Guardiola trained the players for it.
It all started with Johan Cruyff: Messi
Messi talks about how Johan Cruyff changed Barcelona's attitude towards football, and who better to speak about than one of the GOATs of the game? When he returned to Barcelona as a coach, Cruyff instilled aspects of Total Football, which was also about how the team moved together like an orchestra, with all eleven players in-sync with the movement of the ball.
Other aspects touched upon in the trailer
Guardiola and Mourinho's rivalry, when the latter signed as Real Madrid's manager, is also dealt with in the documentary. Along with this, Eric Abidal's fight against cancer and Messi almost being ousted from the team are other topics touched upon in the documentary. The title is taken from a Guardiola quote, which he said during a press conference to explain his philosophy.
Why it was important to talk about Cruyff?
Cruyff was a philosopher who played football- he was the well-read, sharp, politically and socially aware man who brought all of his qualities into football. He provoked those around him to think and analyze, and thus were born the generation of football thinkers- Guardiola, Ronald Koeman, Luis Enrique, Laurent Blanc, Frank de Boer, and a certain translator from Portugal- Jose Mourinho.
Creativity should be productive, not just a show-off
What Guardiola taught his players was a very important lesson, and they followed his every word- creativity on the pitch should always be beneficial to the greater good of the team, and not for showing off. With each body feint, Iniesta and Xavi created acres of space the opponents had no idea existed, and with his dribbles and passing, Messi tore open opposition defenses.
