Warner, Smith to play in Caribbean Premier League
Banned duo Steve Smith and David Warner will now turn their attention to Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament. The senior cricketers, recently, played in the Canada T20 league. The star pair is serving a 12-month international ban after being involved in a ball-tampering scandal against South Africa in the third Test match in March. Here is more on their CPL adventure.
Smith to play for Tridents in CPL
Smith will represent Barbados Tridents in the CPL T20 tourney. The Jason Holder-led side will feature stars like Martin Guptill and Hashim Amla. Warner, on the other hand, will play for St Lucia Stars. The southpaw replaced D'Arcy Short, who will turn up for Australia A in the quadrangular series in India next month.
In-form Smith will look to pile up runs
Smith had a decent campaign in Canada T20 as he racked up 167 runs in six matches. The focus will be on CPL now, as he will target more runs in order to build his case for a comeback to the Australian side next year. Warner, on the other hand, struggled to have an impact in Canada, with just 109 runs in eight matches.
6 teams to fight in CPL T20
The CPL kicks off from August 8 and will run till September 16. Six teams are set to participate in the T20 tourney. The teams are Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Tridents, St Lucia Stars, Jamaica Tallawahs, Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
