KL Rahul highlights Rahul Dravid's role in return to form
The situation looked grim for KL Rahul at the start of 2019 after he was suspended by the BCCI for a controversy that erupted on television chat show, Koffee With Karan. Rahul missed the ODIs against Australia last month and then sat out of the series against New Zealand. However, in the two T20Is against Aussies, he dominated the show. Here's what Rahul said.
Rahul responded with 50 and 47 in T20Is against Australia
Rahul was backed by the management to prove his worth in the ongoing white-ball series against Australia at home. India are keen to have a back-up top order batsman for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 and this is why he was allowed to open the innings against Australia in T20Is. Rahul responded with a strong show as he scored 50 and 47.
Got time to reflect on my game: Rahul
"It was a hard time no doubt...like I said it gave me time to reflect on my game, on myself. I have always been someone who takes things as it comes," said the 26-year-old in a press conference.
Rahul keen to make opportunities count
Rahul knows the value of these scarce opportunities. "Just to value where I am, just to keep making opportunities count and put my head down and keep working on my cricket", he said. He had a tough time in Test cricket last year and lost his place in the side. But the India A tour helped him work on his shortcomings.
'Got to spend a lot of time with Rahul Dravid'
"Got to spend a lot of time with Rahul Dravid, working on my game and chatting about cricket. He helped a lot in the five games I played for India A. The time I have spent in the middle has helped," Rahul said.
Rahul needs to build from here on
The job is far from over for Rahul. India will face the Aussies in a five-match ODI series next and that will be the real test of character. Rahul will need to build from this and score freely in the 50-over format. With all that he has gone through in recent times, one should give him the credit for his response on the field.
