T20I cricket, in 2018, continues to see new records being scripted by individuals and teams alike. From highest totals, individual best scores to flurry of wickets, we are witnessing a year that marks an important milestone in the world of cricket. Here we look at some of the T20I records broken in 2018.
When Kiwis amassed their record T20I total
The year has already seen 17 T20I innings with totals in excess of 200 runs. In the thick of things lie Kiwis, who scripted their highest-ever total in January against West Indies. New Zealand scored 243/5, before seeing off their opponents by 119 runs. They also got to 243/6 against Australia in Feb'18. The highest T20I total was slammed by Australia (263/3) in 2016.
Finch goes the distance for Aussies
Australian in-form batsman took batting to another level after scripting the highest ever T20I individual score (172). He achieved the feat against Zimbabwe in just 76 balls. He broke his own record of 156 against England which was the best score in the format till yesterday. He faced 76 balls, which is the most by any batsman in a T20I innings.
Finch involved in more records
He shared a 223-run stand with D'Arcy Short, which became the highest ever partnership in T20Is. They surpassed Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill's previous record of 171*. Finch scored 75.1% of Aussie runs against Zimbabwe which is most by an individual for his team.
Kohli fastest to 2,000 T20I runs
Virat Kohli took the least number of innings to reach the 2,000-run mark in T20Is. The 29-year-old achieved the feat in his 56th innings when playing against England on Tuesday. Interestingly, he had also been the fastest to 1,000 T20I runs (27 innings). Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 20, now has 2012 runs, as he became the 4th batsman to reach the 2000-run mark.
Other individual records in 2018
MS Dhoni surpassed Pakistan's Kamran Akmal to effect the most stumpings in T20Is (33). India's 213 against Ireland, recently, helped them level South Africa's record for the most 200+ scores in T20Is (11). India's Kuldeep Yadav became the first bowler to get two batsmen stumped off successive deliveries in T20Is. He also became the second bowler in T20Is to take a fifer in England.
Records in women's cricket in 2018
England eves registered the highest ever T20I score in women's cricket after posting 250 runs against South Africa on June 20, 2018. New Zealand women and Aussie women had set the record prior to that this year with 216 and 209 runs respectively.
