Sese Bau becomes second PNG player with this record
Papua New Guinea batter Sese Bau played a solid knock against hosts West Indies in their opening 2024 ICC T20 World Cup encounter in Guyana. Bau rescued PNG after they were down 7/2. Although he took 43 balls for scoring 50, his knock guided PNG to 136/8 in 20 overs. Bau became the second PNG batter with a 50+ score in T20 WC history.
Bau smashes a 43-ball 50
PNG, being put in to bat, lost opener Tony Ura early. Lega Siaka also departed before the 10-run mark. While the Caribbean bowlers continued to strike, Bau firmly held his end. He was eventually dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for a 43-ball 50 (6 fours and 1 six). PNG were down to 98/6 with his departure. Notably, Bau slammed his fourth half-century in T20I cricket.
Second batter with this feat
As per Cricbuzz, Bau has become the second batter with a 50+ score for PNG in the T20 World Cup. He joins Assad Vala, who slammed 56(43) against Oman in the 2021 edition in Al Amerat.
Bau races past 900 T20I runs
Bau made his T20I debut in February 2016 in a game Ireland at Townsville. The 31-year-old has now raced past 900 runs in the shortest format. In 53 T20Is, he owns 941 runs at an average of 24.76. His strike-rate of 112.15 is on the lower side. Overall, Bau has racked up over 950 runs in T20 cricket.
