The 2024 Men's ICC T20 World Cup will be underway on June 1 in the Caribbean and USA. As many as 20 teams will take part in the expanded tournament that has come a long way. MS Dhoni: 529 runs
A spirited Team India under a young MS Dhoni went on the win the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. The ground-breaking achievement started a wave of T20 cricket across the globe. Dhoni went on to lead India in five other T20 World Cup campaigns. He slammed 529 runs while leading India in 33 games, the most by a batter in the tournament.
Kane Williamson: 517 runs
New Zealand's Kane Williamson is the only other batter with over 500 runs as captain in the T20 World Cup. Williamson, who will lead the Kiwis in 2024, is set to surpass Dhoni on this list. The former owns 517 runs from 17 T20 World Cup matches at 34.46 while leading. His tally includes two half-centuries.
Babar Azam: 427 runs
Pakistan's Babar Azam owns 427 runs as captain in the T20 World Cup. He averages 35.58 in 13 games so far. However, Babar's strike rate of 114.47 is on the lower side. His tally of five fifties is the most for a batter. Babar, who led Pakistan in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, will be at the helm this time as well.
Mahela Jayawardene: 360 runs
Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene occupies the fourth spot on this list with 360 runs. He led the Lankans in 11 T20 World Cup games between 2007 and 2012, having averaged 40.00 with the bat. He maintained a strike rate of 130.90 in this regard. Jayawardene slammed two half-centuries while leading SL in the T20 World Cup.
