Matthew Mott appointed as Sydney Sixers's assistant coach
Matthew Mott, the former head coach of England men's cricket team, has been appointed as the new assistant coach for the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers. He has signed a three-year contract with the club. Mott will be working alongside Greg Shipperd, who is currently serving as the head coach. Mott replaces Cameron White, who was named the head coach of Melbourne Renegades earlier this year.
Mott expresses excitement about joining Sydney Sixers
Mott expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the Sydney Sixers, stating, "Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it's a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity." He also mentioned his respect for head coach Greg Shipperd and how appealing the idea of working under him was. The Sixers will commence their BBL campaign against Melbourne Renegades on December 16.
Mott's successful coaching career with England
Mott stepped down as England Men's white-ball head coach with immediate effect in July 30. He came into England's split coaching setup in May 2022, taking over from Chris Silverwood. Later that year, England were crowned champions of the T20 World Cup Down Under. England also won white-ball series against Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan among other sides in his tenure. However, England fared poorly in the 2023 ODI World Cup and lost the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final.
