FIR against wrestler Sushil Kumar for brawl at CWG trials
Olympic medallist, Sushil Kumar, was booked by the Delhi police after a complaint which stated that his supporters beat up fellow wrestler Parveen Rana and his brother. The complaint was lodged under Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 341 for wrongful restrain, the former attracting imprisonment up to one year or a fine of Rs. 1,000 or both. Sushil Kumar's achievements
Sushil Kumar is a two-time Olympic medal winner; having won bronze and silver at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics respectively. He clinched two CWG gold medals in 2010 and 2014 and also has a 2010 World Championships gold to his name.
Where did the alleged incident take place?
Sushil Kumar and Parveen Rana competed against each other in the trial bouts for next year's Commonwealth Games. Kumar won all his trial bouts beating Rana on the way to qualify for the 2018 games. Brawl between the supporters of the two ensued minutes after the bout. Rana claimed that Sushil's supporters beat him up for "daring to take the ring" against the veteran.
Bitten during the match
Kumar had previously said that he was bitten by Rana during the trial bout yesterday but went on to add that it might be Rana's tactics and that it was all part of sports.
Sushil Kumar condemns the incident
Denying knowledge of incident at the time of its occurrence, Sushil Kumar condemned the violence. "It is really sad. Whoever is responsible for this, even if it someone from my family, it is wrong. This should not happen in sports," he said. Rana had also said that Kumar's supporters gave him death threats and dared him to participate in the upcoming Pro Wrestling League.
