Sunrisers Hyderabad acquire Hundred franchise Northern Superchargers for £100 million

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have successfully acquired Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
The acquisition was confirmed after SRH owners, the Sun Group, outbid other contenders in a three-way competition. The details of these competitors remain undisclosed.

SRH secures full ownership of Northern Superchargers
The Sun Group has acquired full ownership of the Northern Superchargers by buying both the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) 49% stake and Yorkshire's 51% share.
The Superchargers, who were bought for £100 million, become the first side to be sold outright in The Hundred.
Earlier, host venues had retained a share in the first five franchises to be sold.

Yorkshire CCC CEO expresses optimism about SRH partnership
Meanwhile, Sanjay Patel, the Chief Executive Officer of Yorkshire County Cricket Club (CCC), expressed his optimism about the partnership with the Sun Group.
He said SRH's vision aligns with the values Yorkshire pursue.
Patel also emphasized that this acquisition is a significant milestone for Yorkshire CCC, Northern Superchargers, and Sun Group.
Global expansion
Second overseas investment after Sunrisers Eastern Cape
This acquisition is SRH's second investment overseas. They also own the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 competition.
The Eastern Cape team, captained by Aiden Markram, have won SA20 twice.
They are on course for a third consecutive title after reaching Qualifier 2 of the ongoing edition.

SRH finished as the runners-up in IPL 2024 after losing the final to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They won the 2016 edition in the leadership of David Warner. The Orange Army have produced several match-winners in the past.
