Decoding gymnast Sunisa Lee's medal tally at Olympics
Sunisa Lee of United States scripted history in the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. The gymnast secured a bronze medal in women's uneven bars event. With this, she became the first American woman with multiple Olympic medals in uneven bars. She also claimed a bronze in the individual all-around event besides receiving the gold in the team all-around competition. Here we decode her campaign.
Another bronze for Lee in Uneven bars
Lee clocked 14.866 points in the qualifying round to seal a berth in the final. Only Algeria's Kaylia Nemour (15.600) and China's Qiu Qiyuan (15.066) finished ahead of her. The American star then sealed the bronze with a score of 14.800 in the final. Nemour (15.700) and Qiyuan (15.500) claimed the gold and silver medal, respectively.
Success in Tokyo
Lee's maiden Olympic medal in uneven bars came in the 2020 Tokyo Games. She also claimed a bronze that year for recording 14.500 in the final. She is now the only American and one among the eight female athletes with multiple Olympic medals in uneven bars. However, no other gymnast has more than one bronze.
Gold in team event
Lee joined forces with Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, and Hezly Rivera for the team event. USA topped the qualifying round with 172.296 points. They dominated the final round as well and claimed the gold with 171.296 points. 42.699 of these points were clocked by Lee.
Her other two medals at Tokyo Games
Lee was also the part of the USA women's unit that clinched the silver in the team's event at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Grace McCallum were her teammates that year as the quartet clocked 166.096 in the final. The 2020 Tokyo Games also saw Lee secure the gold at the individual all-around event. She scored 57.433 in the final.
Second medal in individual all-around event
The American star secured a podium finish for the individual all-around event in Paris as well. She topped the table in the qualifying round with 59.566 points. Her tally in the final was much lower (56.465). Her compatriot Simone Biles (59.131) and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade (57.932) claimed the gold and silver medal, respectively.

Lee's tally of six Olympic medals is the joint-third-most for an American women gymnast. While she has equaled Aly Raisman's tally, the duo is now only behind Simone Biles (11) and Shannon Miller (7). Besides Olympics, she claimed three medals in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She got gold in the team event, silver in floor exercise, and bronze in uneven bars.
