Appreciate the chemistry between Dhoni and Kohli, says Gavaskar
Former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted the importance of MS Dhoni in the current limited-overs side. Dhoni is expected to be a prime force for India in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 and Gavaskar has praised the chemistry between the former and skipper Virat Kohli. Here's what the legend had to say.
Dhoni is respected immensely in the Indian team
Both Dhoni and Kohli share a close bond on and off the field. Former captain Dhoni has never shied away from guiding the team on the field. On several occasions we have seen both Kohli and stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma having constant chats with MSD while fielding. There is a lot of respect for the veteran and he often calls the shots till now.
Gavaskar highlights the crucial role Dhoni plays in the team
Dhoni is a master in handling field placements and managing the bowlers. "I think the best thing for Virat Kohli is that he is got MS Dhoni as a keeper. You can see whenever he is in the deep, MS Dhoni helps him with the field, talks to the bowlers in crucial situations," Gavaskar said during the India Today Conclave 2019.
'Appreciate the chemistry between both'
Gavaskar also highlighted that the chemistry between Kohli and MSD will help India. "Your best fielder should be at the deep during the death overs. That's where MSD comes into play, telling the bowlers what to do. Appreciate the chemistry between both. Both of them share a lot of respect. Their chemistry is going to help us at the World Cup," Gavaskar added.
World Cup: India are one of the favorites
India are currently involved in a five-match ODI series against Australia at home. This is the final ODI series for India ahead of the World Cup starting from May 30 onwards in England and Wales. India go in as one of the favorites and Dhoni's presence adds a lot.. India have enjoyed a stellar run in this format since the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
