    India's top-ranked singles tennis player, Sumit Nagal, has pulled out of from the impending Davis Cup fixture against Sweden owing to a back injury.

    The indoor hard-court match was scheduled to take place in Stockholm on September 14 and 15.

    Nagal recently lost suffered a first-round exit at the US Open after losing his sinlges match to Tallon Griekspoor.

    Emotional setback

    Nagal expresses disappointment over withdrawal

    Nagal took social media to announce the same, stating, "I was really looking forward to representing in the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Sweden."

    He revealed that the same back issue had forced him to miss the US Open doubles.

    Despite climbing to a career-high ranking of 68 in July, Nagal's current position has slipped to 82 in recent rankings.

    Health first

    Nagal prioritizes health over competition

    Nagal further explained his decision, "However, due to a back issue that's been bothering me for the past few weeks, doctors have advised me to rest for the next two weeks."

    Therefore, he does not have enough time to compete in Sweden.

    He emphasized the importance of listening to his body and preventing his back condition from worsening.
