WATCH: Steve Smith dismisses batsman in a weird fashion
In case one does not remember, prolific Australian cricketer Steve Smith started his career as a leg-spinner, before going on to become the batsman the world knows today. While he is a full-time batsman currently, he continues to bowl occasionally. Meanwhile, in domestic Sheffield Shield recently, his leg-spin dismissed a batsman, which did come under controversial and weird circumstances. Here is more.
Josh Inglis caught and dismissed in bizarre manner
The incident happened during the Sheffield Shield clash between New South Wales and Western Australia. Wales's Smith, who was bowling to WA's Josh Inglis, saw the latter going for the drive, as the ball hit the man at silly point, only to bounce back in the air and to be comfortably taken by Nick Larkin in the short leg.
Inglis's dismissal was not clear enough
However, there was mild controversy surrounding his dismissal, as replays from multiple angles suggested that while Inglis went for the drive, the ball probably hit the ground, before or after, hitting the boots of the man stationed at silly point. Nonetheless, since it was a domestic match, with no DRS in place, the on-field umpire's decision stood.

How did the match pan out?
After winning the toss, Wales elected to bat first, as they posted a good total of 444/8, courtesy Smith's 103. Meanwhile, WA were bundled for 191, as Pat Cummins and Steve OKeefe claimed three each. The second innings saw Wales scoring 98/0, while WA were knocked off for 128, as Mitchell Starc claimed 4/57, while Smith claimed 1/10.
Smith fined for outburst following dismissal against WA
Although he helped his side win, he was on the receiving end as he was slapped with a fine 25% of his match fee, following the dissent he showed over his dismissal. Nonetheless, he apologized to his team-mates following the code of conduct violation. "I have to look at when I get out and the way I sort of conduct myself," he said.
