India-Pakistan cricket rivalry in numbers
The most awaited cricket match of the year, India versus Pakistan, will be played at Edgbaston in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. It will be almost after two years that the two teams will be facing each other in an ODI match. Ahead of the 'mother of all matches', let us have a look at previous ODI records of India and Pakistan matches.
ODI history
India and Pakistan played their first ODI match in 1978, where India registered a 4-run victory. Since then, both the countries have played 127 matches, with a win loss record of 72-51 in favor of Pakistan. Pakistan hold an edge at all the locations, be it in India, Pakistan or a neutral venue. They have also won 11 of the 17 bilateral series played.
Highest and lowest individual scores
Indian team has both the highest and lowest score to its name. India had scored 356/9 in 2005 at Visakhapatnam, while the lowest score of 79 all out came way back in 1978.
'Sultan of swing' on the top
Wasim Akram is the leading wicket taker in the India Pakistan matches. In 48 matches, Akram has picked up 60 wickets and has a phenomenal economy rate of 3.73. He is followed by fellow countryman Saqlain Mushtaq, who has 57 wickets from 36 matches. Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath have 54 wickets each and are India's most successful bowlers against Pakistan.
Best bowling figures
One of the best fast-bowlers from Pakistan, Aaqib Javed had destroyed Indian batting in the finals of Wills Trophy in 1991. He picked up seven wickets, giving away just 37 runs in 10 overs. From Indian side, Sourav Ganguly has best bowling figures of 5/16.
Master Blaster tops the list
Scoring 2526 runs from 67 innings, Sachin Tendulkar is more than 100 runs ahead of Inzamam-ul-Haq to be the leading run scorer in the India Pakistan ODI matches. He has five centuries and 16 half centuries against Pakistan at an average of 40.09. Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid is the fourth highest scorer with 1899 runs from 55 innings.
Highest individual scores
Pakistan's batting legend Saeed Anwar holds the record of the highest individual score with 194 runs. It was also the highest individual score in an ODI innings, until Sachin Tendulkar scored a double century. Virat Kohli's 183 is the second highest individual score.
The last five results
While Pakistan have won the last bi-lateral series played between the two nations in 2012-13, India have a 3-2 win loss record in the last five ODI matches. India have defeated Pakistan in both the ICC tournaments played since 2012. The two nations last met in the 2015 ICC World Cup, where India won the match by 76 runs.
