Statistical review of India in Tests in 2019
India have finished their campaign in Test cricket for the year of 2019. India's Test campaign ended on a strong note, as they tamed Bangladesh 2-0 in the just-concluded two-match Test series. Team India finished the year as the number one team in the format, and also the number one in ICC World Test Championship. We review India's stats for the year.
Mayank Agarwal surpasses Virat Kohli to finish as top run-scorer
Starting the list with the highest run-scorer, Mayank Agarwal tops the list. He scored 754 runs in 11 innings at an average of 68.54, including three centuries and a couple of half-centuries, while he also scored a couple of double hundreds. He is followed by Ajinkya Rahane (642), Virat Kohli (612), Rohit Sharma (556) and Cheteshwar Pujara (507) among the top five.
Rohit shocks the world with 90-plus average
While Mayank might have topped the chart in terms of runs scored, Rohit Sharma shocked the world with his performance upon being promoted as an opener. Scoring 556 in just six innings, including three centuries, along with a top score of 212, he averaged 92.66, which is the highest among Indians for the year. He is followed by Rishabh Pant (72.33) in the second.
Kohli plays sublime innings to finish with top score
The world's number one Test batsman just cannot be kept out as he tops the chart when it comes to the highest score in the format for the year. It was his sublime innings of an unbeaten 254 against South Africa last month which was applauded by all, while it is also his career-best score in the format. Mayank is placed second with 243.
Mohammed Shami nails it among the bowlers
As for the bowlers, the Indian pacers were ruthless this year, and on the same note, Mohammed Shami tops the chart for claiming the most wickets. He claimed 33 scalps in 16 innings at an average of 16.66 while his best performance in a match was 7/58. He is followed by Ishant Sharma (25), Umesh Yadav (23) and Ravindra Jadeja (21).
Ishant terrorizes batsmen with a nine-wicket match haul
Continuing the bowling performance, it was Ishant who came up with a phenomenal performance in the just-concluded second test (Day-Night) against Bangladesh, where he claimed 9/78. In the process, he scripted the best bowling figures in a match for the year, while he is followed by Umesh Yadav (8/82), Ravichandran Ashwin (8/189) and Jasprit Bumrah (7/58).
Wriddhiman Saha tops the chart for most dismissals
India's veteran wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha outlasted Rishabh Pant to finish with the most dismissals (18) in the format, seven more than the latter. He also has a stumping to his name, while he has also claimed the most catches in the format this year (17) and he did so in just 10 innings.
India annihilate Australia Down Under with monstrous total
As for the team stats, India scored their highest Test total in an innings for the year, of 622/7, against Australia in Sydney. Their highest match total was of 825 runs against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. As for their biggest margin of win, it was by an innings and 202 runs against South Africa in Ranchi.
