Sri Lanka beat India in 1st T20I, here're records broken
Sri Lanka defeated India by 5 wickets in the first match of the 2018 Nidahas Trophy Twenty 20 tri-series. Sri Lanka won the toss and put India to bat. The men in blue posted 174/5 courtesy of a Shikhar Dhawan blitz. The Lankans, in reply, chased down the target in 19th over. Here are the records that were broken in this match.
Dhawan's 89 propels India to 174/5
Shikhar Dhawan helped India reach a commendable score against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo. The opener restructured India's innings after the side lost both Rohit Sharma (0) and Suresh Raina (1) early on. Dhawan smashed 89, and shared a 95-run stand with Manish Pandey (37) for the third wicket. Contributions from Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik helped India reach 174/5.
Dhawan sets new milestones
Dhawan's 90 is his career best score in T20Is. His previous best score was 80 against New Zealand in Delhi in November 2017. Dhawan also broke Virat Kohli's record of highest T20I score by an Indian in Colombo (82). His 95-run stand with Manish Pandey for the third wicket is the 3rd highest partnership for India in T20Is.
Dhawan's form a commanding factor
After finishing the three-match T20I series against South Africa as the highest scorer with 143 runs, Dhawan's 90 sees him score 233 runs in four matches at an average of 58.25. This was his 5th fifty in T20I cricket and a second against Lanka.
Rohit's struggles continue
This was Rohit Sharma's 2nd score of nought in the last three T20I matches. The opening batsman got out against Dushmantha Chameera for the fourth time in his T20I career. This was also his 5th score of 0 in T20Is and 2nd against Lanka.
Sri Lanka goes big on chase
Sri Lanka added a massive 75/2 in first six overs of their power play in the chase. Shardul Thakur's 27 runs in the third over was the 2nd costliest over ever by an Indian in T20Is. The highest is Stuart Binny's (32) against the West Indies. Kusal Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka added 58 runs in just 21 balls for the 2nd wicket.
Kusal Perera smashes his way against India
Perera notched his 8th T20I fifty. This was his 2nd T20I fifty against India. Interestingly, he brought his fifty in 22 balls, which is the third highest in T20Is by a Sri Lankan. It is also the 2nd fastest fifty by a Lankan against India.
