Nidahas Trophy 2018: Angelo Mathews ruled out
After having lost Asela Gunaratne to injury for the upcoming Nidahas trophy, Sri Lanka have now been dealt with a severe blow. The Islanders would be without the services of Angelo Mathews after he suffered a calf injury. Dinesh Chandimal is set to take over the reins from Mathews. Sri Lanka open their T20I tri-series campaign against India on March 6.
Mathews an injury prone athlete
Angelo's tryst with injuries over the past one year has been quite telling. A series of injuries on his lower body has kept him out of cricket more often than expected. The Nidahas Trophy is his fourth major series miss since January 2017.
What now for Sri Lanka?
Lanka's injury woes put them in a tight spot in the T20I tri-nation series involving India and Bangladesh. With Mathews gone now, the side lacks the all-round abilities of one of their go to limited overs specialists. His experience will be missed sourly and it will be up to Chandimal now to get a young side performing. They beat Bangladesh in the T20Is recently.
