Kusal Perera discharged from hospital, will bat if needed
Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Perera has been discharged from the hospital after he was declared to be 'out of danger'. The 27-year-old had to be rushed off the field in an ambulance after he crashed into the advertising hoardings. The incident happened during Day 3 of the final D/N Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Barbados.
Scans cleared Perera of any internal injuries
"KJP was discharged from the hospital after scans cleared him. He went back to the ground. He has been cleared but has been advised to rest. He will bat if required tomorrow," a Sri Lanka Cricket official said.
Incident occurred on Day 3
The incident occurred in the 29th over when West Indian Shannon Gabriel walked into bat and charged off-spinner Dilruwan Perera. Kusal Perera dived in a bid to take the catch but the ball cleared the ropes, and the fielder crashed into the advertising hoardings. Perera's face and ribs took most of the impact, and he remained motionless until help arrived.
Perera had to be stretchered off to the hospital
A doctor attended Perera at the stadium, but it was suggested they take him to a hospital in case there are any internal injuries. The 27-year-old was rushed in an ambulance to the hospital where he was declared out of danger.
West Indies are putting up a tough fight
20 wickets fell on the third day. Sri Lanka managed to restrict West Indies to 93 in the second innings as the team recovered from 56 for eight. Sri Lanka needed 144 to win the match but West Indies captain Holder was not willing to let go without a fight. He bagged 4 wickets leaving the visitors at 81/5 with 63 required to win.
