The Sri Lankan cricket team overcame West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series. The Windies managed 289/7 in 50 overs. Shai Hope scored a century. However, the Lankans responded well and chased down the target with one wicket to spare. The Lankan openers and Wasindu Hasaranga played a crucial role down the order. Here are the records scripted.
How did the match pan out?
Windies rode Hope's 140-ball 115 to get some shield. He was part of two fifty-plus stands and was leading WI well with the bat. The Lankans hit back and WI were 240/7 at one stage. However, Keemo Paul and Hayden Walsh played impressive knocks. In reply, Lanka were cruising along at one stage. WI responded and took the game close but the hosts won.
Hope slams ninth ODI century, Lankan openers impress
Hope slammed his ninth career ODI century in his 76th match. He now has 3,166 runs at 51.90. This was his maiden century against the Lankans in ODI cricket. Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne (52) slammed his fifth career ODI fifty. His opening partner Avishka Fernando registered his third career ODI half-century as well.
