SA wins fifth ODI, whitewashes Australia for the first time
South Africa whitewashed Australia after defeating them in the fifth ODI match at Cape Town. Rilee Rossouw scored 122 runs for South Africa after they won the toss and batted first. SA had put a score of 327 runs on the board. In reply, David Warner's knock of 173 runs went in vain after the Australian team was bowled out for 296 runs.
South Africa eyes whitewash against Australia
Ahead of their fifth ODI match, South Africa will look forward to whitewash Australia 5-0 in the series. The host team has defeated the number one ODI team in the previous four games. Australia have never been whitewashed in an ODI series. Their worst loss came against England when they lost 4-0 in a five match series after the third ODI was abandoned.
Warner named 'Man of the Match'
Australia's David Warner was given the 'Man of the Match' award for his score of 173 runs in 136 balls. Warner's innings saw him hit 24 fours but not a single sixer.
Australia's year of whitewash
South Africa became the first team to beat Australia in five consecutive One Day Internationals in a bilateral series. However, earlier this year, the Australians got whitewashed in T20 and test series too. Australia lost the all three T20 internationals against India in January 2016. In tests, Sri Lanka whitewashed Australia 3-0 in the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy in July-August 2016.
Australia continue to be number one even after series loss
The Australian team will continue to hold their spot as the number one ICC ODI team even after a whitewash from South Africa. With 119 ratings, Australia stand strong in the rankings. South Africa hold the second spot with 117 ratings.
