Sourav Ganguly takes over as BCCI President- Details here
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun a new chapter, as former skipper Sourav Ganguly officially took over the charge of the board as the President, on Wednesday. He was unanimously chosen for the post in a special meeting on October 14. Notably, he was the only person in the race for the post. Here are further details.
Jay Shah becomes new secretary, along with other appointments
As reported earlier, besides Ganguly, new appointments were made for the other posts as well. Jay Shah, son of India's Home Minister, Amit Shah, has been elected as the new secretary of the board, while Brijesh Patel is the new IPL chairman. Meanwhile, Arun Dhumal, younger brother of former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, is the new treasurer of the board.
Ganguly and Shah to remain at helm for 10 months
However, it is to be noted that both Ganguly and Shah would be in charge of the BCCI for 10 months. Following this, they would be given a three-year cooling-off period, having served six consecutive years at the national and state level, a clause brought into the new constitution after recommendations by the RM Lodha Committee.

Ganguly, in the process, has become the first former cricketer since the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to be elected as the permanent BCCI president. He has also been serving as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) since 2015, following the demise of former President Jagmohan Dalmiya. Meanwhile, Ganguly had stated that he wants to emulate the success of Dalmiya.
CoA happy with BCCI's current progress
It is also to be noted that the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) would not be in control anymore. The CoA member Diana Edulji expressed her happiness about the current situation. "Didn't think that the journey would last so long, but I am happy that elections and office-bearers are coming back and BCCI will be run by them now," said Edulji.
CoA Chief expresses happiness at Ganguly's appointment
Meanwhile, CoA chief Vinod Rai too expressed his happiness over Ganguly's appointment and feels that his experience as CAB President would come in handy. "There is no one better than him to take this position. We are agnostic about the family and other things. Our job was to hold the elections as per the constitution and we have done that," he said.
Discussing revenue model with ICC one of Ganguly's prime agendas
Prior to the election, Ganguly stated that one of his prime agendas would be to discuss the revenue structure with the International Cricket Council (ICC). "India generates 70-80 percent of the revenue. So, that's going to be one of the agendas. Talks and discussions need to happen and we have to find a solution to this, as this is not leading anywhere," he said.
