Coronavirus outbreak: Sourav Ganguly gives update on IPL 2020

    What's the story

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly still believes there is still no certainty regarding the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League.

In a fresh update, he asserted that nothing has changed in the last 10 days as the nation continues to struggle with coronavirus pandemic.

The outburst led to the postponement of IPL from March 29 to April 15.

    Here is what Ganguly said.

    Quote

I don't have any answer at the moment, says Ganguly

"I can't say anything at the moment. We are at the same place where we were on the day we postponed. Nothing has changed in the last 10 days. So, I don't have an answer to it. Status quo remains," Ganguly told PTI.

    Plan

    India's FTP can't be altered

Ganguly also ruled out the possibility of rescheduling the tournament after a few months, if the incumbent scenario makes it redundant.

He stated that the Future Tour Programs (FTP) have already been scheduled.

"You can't plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It's there and you can't change the FTP. All around the world, cricket and more so sports has stopped," he said.

    Cancelation

IPL 2020 faces a suspension scare

IPL is facing a serious scare of cancelation with Tokyo 2020 Olympics already deferred by a year due to the dire crisis.

The deadly virus which has claimed over 16,000 deaths globally, has thrust a number of nations including India into lockdown.

In India, the tally of coronavirus cases has climbed over 500 with 11 deaths so far.

    Insurance

Not sure about insurance money: Ganguly

Ganguly was unsure on whether the stake holders could claim insurance to make up for the losses.

Reportedly, each franchise may have a basic loss of around Rs. 15-20 crore.

"I am not sure whether you can get insurance money. Because this is a government lockdown. I am not sure whether a government lockdown is covered by insurance," he said.
