Saurav Ganguly is in favour of T20 cricket
Former India captain, Sourav Ganguly has spoken in favour of Twenty20 tournaments. He said that the game of cricket can't survive without them. The 45-year-old, who represented India in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, told reporters that he believes "Twenty20 is must for cricket." His support comes at a time when the coaches are concerned about the additional workload created by these tournaments.
Trevor Bayliss called for T20Is to be abolished
Just days ago, England coach Trevor Bayliss suggested that T20Is should be abolished since there is too much of workload on the players and coaches. He said T20 cricket is best left for franchises.
Ganguly thinks cricket can't survive without T20s
Replying to a specific question about cricketers playing continuous matches without any rest and also different formats, Ganguly told reporters "Twenty20 is must for cricket. Without T20, cricket cannot survive,"
Ganguly hails Dhoni's heroics
The former captain was full of praise for Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, whose heroics in the second T20I, took India to 188 against South Africa. "Dhoni is very good in one day matches and in T20. It is very hard to get past MS. You got to respect the contributions made by him and others too will get an opportunity to shine."
Ganguly says youngsters need to be patient
The southpaw was also asked about the limited chances Indian youngsters are getting in the national team. He responded "We have Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and others have come in to play in our Indian side. We have to give them time to become the likes of Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh. Sehwag and Harbhajan also developed over a period of time"
