ICC Rankings: Kohli loses top spot to Smith, Bumrah plunges
Indian skipper Virat Kohli who had a forgettable outing against New Zealand in the Wellington Test, has lost his number one spot to Steve Smith in the ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen. Kohli slipped in the rankings after having scored 2 and 19. Besides, Jasprit Bumrah also crashed out of the top 10 in the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers. Here's more.
Kohli's lean made Smith climb up in the rankings
New Zealand tour is turning into a nightmare for Kohli
The Indian skipper has been the talk of the town for a while now, not for the right reasons. The ongoing New Zealand tour is a testimony of Kohli's descending form. In the Wellington Test, he could score only 21 runs. While the first innings saw him getting caught in the slips, Trent Boult trapped him in the following one with a bouncer.
Smith and Kohli have been batting it out since 2015
This is the eighth time that Smith is leading the rankings after first occupying the top position in 2015. New Zealand's Kane Williamson was the last batsman apart from Smith and Kohli to be number one, for an eight-day period in December 2015.
Bumrah moved to number 11 in the bowling rankings
Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could claim only a solitary scalp in the Wellington Test. This resulted in him falling outside the top 10 in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers. Bumrah slipped to the 11th spot with 756 points. Ravichandran Ashwin is now the only Indian bowler in the top 10. Smith's compatriot Pat Cummins is leading the bowling rankings.
Mayank enters top 10 in ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen
Mayank Agarwal has made it top 10 for the first time. The Indian opener occupies the tenth spot with 727 points. He scored 58 off 99 balls in the second innings, the highest individual run-scorer for India in the match. Besides, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara hold the 8th and 9th positions respectively. The former scored a hard earned 46 in the first innings.
